Another legend attributes the discovery of tofu to the famous Chinese philosopher and alchemist, Li Shizhen, who lived during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Li Shizhen is said to have invented a method for producing tofu while he was searching for a way to make a food that could cure diseases. Over time, tofu spread throughout East and Southeast Asia.
