Who is ASAP Rocky?

ASAP Rocky (Rakim Athelaston Mayers)  is an American rapper, producer, and actor. He is a member of the hip-hop collective A$AP Mob, which was founded by his longtime mentor A$AP Yams. In this article, we will answer the following question: Is ASAP Rocky vegan?

At the age of eight, he began to rap, what he had learned from his brother. The same year he moved with his family to Pennsylvania. When Mayers was 12 years old, his father ended up in prison for dealing drugs. As a result, the mother decided to move with her family to North Carolina. As homeless, they found refuge in women’s shelters. To return to a familiar environment, the family moved back to Harlem.

At the age of 13, his older brother Ricky was shot dead on the side street of his home. Death was crucial for him to take rapping seriously. In the following years, he lived with his mother and sister in different women’s houses. He attended Bayard Rustin High School for the Humanities in Chelsea. In order to escape poverty, Mayers began to trade drugs. At first, he sold marijuana, and at the age of 15, he expanded his business to include a crack in the Bronx. He was arrested for the first time in 2004 and spent two weeks on Rikers Island, sharing a cell with rapper Casanova, but decided to quit the drug trade at the age of 22 in favor of his career.

Is ASAP Rocky vegan?

In 2012, he told the online magazine ’Complex‘ that he was a Pescetarian. What is a pescetarian diet? Pescetarians are people who avoid eating meat, but not fish. Only a few weeks later, he told “Grub Street” that he had a problem with his family’s eating habits. He said that most people in his family mix meat in everything they cook.

The musician’s song, “Babushka Boi,” reveals that he’s ditched all animal products.

The rapper declares in the second verse of the song that he no longer consumes animal products. Rocky raps: “I ain’t ducking bullets either,”  “I ain’t duck sauce since I became a vegan.”

“I started doing research and found out how they treat those animals before they, you know, service them. They inject them with steroids and drugs that enhance their growth. None of that sh*t is healthy, and on top of that those [expletive] animals were stressed and compressed the whole time,” he explained. “That kind of food going into your body is unhealthy. I don’t mean to sound like some weirdo, but it is what it is.”

Rocky became pescatarian in 2012, by 2015 he was vegetarian, and in his 2019 song, Babushka Boi, Rocky reveals that he is vegan.
