On many issues I support vegans, but when a vegan mother doesn’t want to breastfeed her newborn baby because she wants to feed it vegan, I think she must have lost her mind and needs to be admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
How important is breastfeeding?
Both mother and child can benefit from breastfeeding in terms of health. In addition to its composition and digestion, breast milk is the best nourishment for infants because it contains compounds that fight bacteria, reduce inflammation, and boost their immune systems.
Breastfeeding is healthy:
- Breast milk is the food intended by nature for babies. Thus, a child is provided with everything it needs after birth. In addition: it is health prevention for mother and child.
- Breastfeeding has these advantages for children:
- Breast milk is perfectly adapted to the child’s needs: It satisfies hunger, quenches thirst and protects against overeating in the process.
- Breast milk is well-tempered, always ready and also hygienic.
- Breast milk contains special defense and protective substances that protect a child in the long term against diseases such as gastrointestinal infections or middle ear infections, and during breastfeeding against acute infectious diseases such as measles, chickenpox or colds.
- Breastfeeding prevents the development of allergies.
- The risk of sudden infant death syndrome is reduced by breastfeeding.
- In the long term, children who have been breastfed have a lower risk of some diseases, such as obesity, cardiovascular disease (for example, high blood pressure), diabetes mellitus and leukemia.
- The long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in breast milk are important for the development of the child’s brain and nervous system.
- The interaction of lactic acid bacteria and various carbohydrates contained in breast milk helps to build up a healthy intestinal flora.
- Breastfeeding promotes jaw development and possibly also prevents malocclusions.
- Breastfeeding shows a positive effect on the cognitive development of children.
- Breastfeeding has these advantages for mothers:
- The uterus recedes more quickly in breastfeeding women.
In addition, there are findings that the hormonal influences of breastfeeding reduce the risk of ovarian and breast cancer and lower the risk of developing postpartum depression. - Women who did not have gestational diabetes have a lower risk of type 2 diabetes from breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding mothers lose weight faster after birth because breastfeeding consumes extra energy.
Is breast milk vegan?
Of course, breast milk is vegan. What is veganism?
Vegans are people who do not consume animal products such as meat, fish meat, milk, honey and eggs. They also do not wear clothing or shoes made from animal materials such as leather, fur, down or wool.
How long should you breastfeed?
However, it’s important to note that the decision to breastfeed and for how long is ultimately up to the mother and what works best for her and her baby. Some mothers may choose to breastfeed for a shorter or longer period of time, and that’s okay too. It’s recommended to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice and support regarding breastfeeding.
Is it bad for you to not breastfeed?
Breastfeeding is the optimal source of nutrition for infants and provides many health benefits for both the baby and mother. Breast milk contains all the necessary nutrients and antibodies that a baby needs to grow and develop, and it can help protect against infections and diseases.
However, if a mother is unable to breastfeed or chooses not to, there are alternative options available, such as formula feeding. Formula is designed to provide the necessary nutrients for a baby’s growth and development, but it does not contain the same antibodies and other beneficial components found in breast milk.
It’s important for mothers to make an informed decision about feeding their baby, taking into consideration their own health, lifestyle, and support system. If a mother is unable to breastfeed or chooses not to, it’s recommended to consult with a healthcare professional to ensure that the baby is receiving adequate nutrition and to discuss any concerns or questions.
