Robert Downey Jr. invests in vegan products

This year, Robert recently made an investment in Motif FoodWorks, a food-tech company that’s working to manufacture “crave-able” vegan foods. Motif developed APPETEX, a hydrogel that mimics the texture of animal tissue. “Our food technologies enable plant-based and animal-free options that create the rich meaty taste, appearance, and texture that consumers crave,” their website states. “Meat alternatives are now as delicious as their animal counterparts.”

Along with Motif, Downey Jr. has invested in Nobell Foods, a startup that seeks to produce dairy-identical cheese without the need for cows. With this investment, Downey Jr. hopes to contribute to bringing cheesemaking into the modern era. In order to cultivate plants with the same dairy caseins present in animal milk, the firm, which was founded by Magi Richani and raised in Lebanon, recreates the genetic code for casein, a milk protein responsible for the cheesy characteristics of dairy cheese, in soybean seeds. The caseins are then extracted by Nobell to produce a variety of cheeses that are dairy-identical without the use of cows, goats, or any other animal for their lacteal secretions, resulting in a 90% reduction in carbon emissions compared to traditional animal husbandry.
